Photo AlbumBicol's Magnificent Mayon (23 photos)Aug 13, '07 12:03 PM
for everyone

Beautifully symmetrical Mayon volcano, which rises to 2462 m above the Albay Gulf, is the Philippines' most active volcano.

This month I had the chance to shoot it for a couple of days. So much to shoot, so little time.

Welcome to Bicol.

A SHORT BACKGROUNDER on SBC's Street Children Ministry.

You may walk around that Lerma street and look for a church building and have difficulty finding the "church."

Sampaloc Bible Church (SBC) is not a cathedral if you're looking for one.
It's more of an urban-based ministry center that looks like more of an old run-down pasilyo. Actually, we are renting the place and we used to run a canteen and a ladies' dormitory. Now we converted all those spaces to minister to children and even the poor mothers. So don't be surprised... this is not your regular Sunday church.

In the late 80's we started the street children ministry. Before it was just a feeding program and a drop-in center. Later on as funds were available, the church decided to minister to these kids wholistically- housing them, feeding them, sending them to school and providing spiritual guidance to them. We established a foundation (Saganang Buhay kay Cristo Foundation) which was accredited by DSWD.

We have kids in the shelter who have actually reached college levels and we have had a couple of graduates and some actually became full-time Christian workers! What a privilege to be involved in the lives of these kids!

These past couple of years have been tough. The support coming from international sources have ended and the church had to assume support for the ministry almost 100%. Unfortunately we had to gradually reduce the number of our children from over 30 to now 15.

We have organized these EBs for a number of reasons:

* introduce you to our ministry
* have fellowship with the kids
* discover people who are willing to support the kids
* fuel our passion both in photography and in our social concerns

Thank you for the partnership!

God bless!
Pastor Dave

Photo AlbumMore Wonder Drops (13 photos)Jun 29, '07 12:25 AM
for everyone

Seems like a new world of macro photography was opened to me with the discovery of my newly acquired close-up lens attachment. I really like this. haha

I wondered how other photogs could capture really round droplets. I later discovered that really round drops are possible because they are really too tiny... like the size of a pin head like some in these photos. I hope you'll be inspired.

Photo AlbumPotipot, Zambales Revisited (16 photos)Apr 12, '07 12:40 PM
for everyone

April 9-11, 2007 Just after the Holy Week, our family went to Uacon, Zambales (my wife's hometown).

The province is about 5 hours from Manila (without the stopping and driving at constant racing speed... hehe. ok 240+ km one way according to my odometer. I was driving a gas guzzler, a Landcruiser V8 4.7li engine, 4.3km per liter of Shell Velocity... hehe. That's how much of gas? hehe

We went to an island called Potipot, a photographer's paradise. White sand IMO is better than Boracay's. The water is sparkling. Sunset is just amazing!

According to the boatmen, during the Holy Week, there were around a thousand visitors on that small island every day! That's a lot for a small island! When we were there, we had Potipot all for ourselves! The caretaker wasn't even there to collect the P20 fee. I supposed she needed a breather and remitted cash to the owner. hehe. Thank God for His creation to enjoy for free.

Armed with my new bag of tricks I wanted to try... I went to the "shallow" part of the island and used infrared, ND filters, long exposures, etc. etc to my heart's content. I wished I could have tried night photography too, but there was no sight of the moon and there was no light on the island.

I had to forgo my snorkeling equipment which I also brought. There's so much to shoot out there. I saw another photographer there and he saw me. I should have gotten his number, he left earlier and didn't wait up for the sunset. Perhaps he too was from DPP or PiPho. Now that I'm alone, I have Potipot all for myself.

More to come. I think I shot too much photos. I love to inspire and be inspired, so leave something for me to read. thanks.

A group of photographers from DPP Forum (www.digitalphotographer.com.ph) had their first Sampaloc Area EB last 27 January. Photo AlbumMakati Skyline (12 photos)Dec 7, '06 10:44 AM
for everyone

Got an invite from the Guru himself, veteran and well respected professional photog, John Chua, to shoot at the roof top of the new Makati City Hall Building. Sir err.. Manong... err Tito John is a friend of my Dad. He used to shoot Benguet Corp's (where me dad used to work) annual report. I think he did this for 10 years and made him and dad buddies. That's a long story... but let me just say this, 22 years ago, I got my very first SLR (a NIkon FE2), I was so gaga with photography. Dad brought me to John Chua's studio. Believe it or not, the inspiration I got there stayed with me to this day!

Going back to Makati Skyline We met at 5pm. John has secured a permit from the Mayor for 10 people. At the roof top... (to be continued in the photos).
